Statement: Stahl’s career in art began in earnest when he was five years old. His father sent him to a drawing school to prepare him for work in his printing business. Although he loved to draw, Stahl found the lessons at the school rather dry and uninspiring. In his later years, Moshe would tell interviewers that he explored different mediums as he matured, eventually finding his true calling while practicing his craft at home with his wife, artist Yael. When he was nine, Moshe began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tel Aviv. There, he studied under artists such as Henri Leber, Leo Castel and Raphael Porto. It was during this period that he first encountered works by Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh and others that would shape his future work. Stahl received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the academy in 1954. Afterward, he spent a year studying in Paris and returned to finish his studies at the academy in 1956.
